history
The brothers Heinrich, Kaspar and Rudolf Bebié began building a cotton mill in Turgi in 1826. Her father bought land on the peninsula in Turgi that year. By 1828 the spinning mill, the residential building and a food store were completed. In 1833 the spinning mill was expanded and until 1858 it was the largest spinning company in Switzerland.
In 1826 the Bebié brothers were granted the concession for two water wheels. From 1828, the spinning mill used the water power of the Limmat by means of water wheels. In 1905, the Kappeler-Bebié company built a machine house with a generator on the island in Turgi and electrified the spinning mill.
In 1962, Brown, Boveri & Cie. Baden (BBC) the AG formerly E. Kappeler-Bebié and the Bebié AG . In 1986 the BBC built what is now the power station. After being taken over by the Aargau Electricity Works in 1995, it was incorporated into Limmatkraftwerke AG .
Today's production and industrial culture trail
The Turgi power plant has a Kaplan S bulb turbine (output 1 MW, maximum water use 35 m³ / s, gross head 3 m). With an electricity production of 7 GWh, it supplies around 1,600 households with renewable energy.
The Turgi power plant is located on the Limmat-Wasserschloss industrial culture trail , which is a hiking trail that connects buildings and bridges on the Limmat that are interesting in industrial history.
