The Gibstorf power plant is a run-of-river power plant on the Limmat am Limmatspitz in the Vogelsang area of the municipality of Gibstorf in the canton of Aargau . The small hydropower plant is owned by Hydroelectra AG .
history
The hydropower plant of the Limmattal cotton spinning mill was built in 1861 at the «Limmatspitz» and started operations in 1862 with the spinning mill. In 1873 the "spinning king" Heinrich Kunz bought the spinning mill. The closed cotton spinning mill was taken over in 1899 by the metal goods factory W. Egloff & Co. in Turgi, including the concession for the hydroelectric power station, and converted into a factory for lighting fixtures, which later became the BAG Broncewarenfabrik Turgi AG . The associated power plant was rebuilt in 1934.
The power station, known today as power station, is located a few kilometers west of Baden on the Limmat. The water is collected at the weir in the Limmat and led in the canal through the former BAG area to the machine house. The underwater canal flows into Switzerland's moated castle.
The old system from 1861 was brought up to the state of the art in 2001 by Hydroelectra AG. The two machine groups were provided with two new Kaplan turbines, generators, trash rack cleaning systems and a new control system. The strike weir, the canal, the building and the switchgear from 1934 were left in their historical condition.
Today's production
With the two Kaplan turbines (vertical shaft, impeller and diffuser adjustable), the small power plant has an installed capacity of 0.95 MW and an average annual electricity production of 7.3 GWh. The maximum water use is 24 m³ / s with a gross head of 4.2 m. The energy obtained is fed into the AEW Energie power grid.
