The Aue power plant is a run-of-river power plant on the Limmat in Baden in the canton of Aargau . It is located near the high bridge and has belonged to Regionalwerke AG Baden (formerly Elektrizitätsgesellschaft Baden AG ) since 1904 .
history
The Spoerry spinning mill, built in 1835/36, the oldest factory in Baden and one of the largest cotton mills in Switzerland at the time , was destroyed by a major fire in 1904.
The spinning mill owner decided not to rebuild and sold the entire area with the hydropower plant to Elektrizitätsgesellschaft Baden AG in the same year. This converted the power plant to generate electrical energy. In 1909 the first two machine groups were put into operation. Together with the Kappelerhof power plant and the steam reserve system, the power requirements of the city of Baden at that time could be met.
In 1925 a cone Francis turbine (machine group 3, output 1 MW) was installed. This was supplemented in 1966 with two Kaplan turbines (today's machine groups 1 and 2) and a hydraulic weir system with flaps and segment gates was installed.
In the years 2011 to 2014 there was an expansion and the new license was granted until 2074. The Konus Francis turbine was replaced with a new Francis turbine from Andritz Hydro Ravensburg (former subsidiary of Escher Wyss AG ). Due to the new water protection law, the remaining water quantities had to be increased in order to allow the living beings in the river more optimal living conditions.
To use this higher residual water volume, a doping power plant was built above the drop height of the weir for the production of renewable energy. A fish ladder was built with a fish descent aid so that the fish can safely get from the upper water to the lower water. The boaters received a new crossing point at the weir and the canoeists a new white water stretch.
Today's production
As of 2017, the three machine groups and the doping turbine at the weir are producing 30 GWh per year and supplying around 7,000 households with renewable energy from the region. The maximum flow through the four turbines is 130 m 3 / s. The gross head is around 5 m.
