The Dietikon power plant is a run-of-river power plant on the Limmat in Dietikon in the canton of Zurich . It has belonged to the electricity works of the Canton of Zurich (EKZ) since 1908 .

history

1888, the first generator in was Limmattalstrasse put into operation, the machines of a cotton weaving to drive and since electricity is produced at this site. Heinrich Boller, owner of the Uster spinning mill, had a cotton weaving mill for 230 looms built on the Limmat in 1857 (“Weberei Dietikon AG”, from 1900 “weaving mill Syz & Co.”) and a factory sewer for industrial use of the Limmat water.

With this canal, the Grien Island was created , on which the turbine houses were built, which were taken over by the Dietikon electricity company of the EKZ in 1908. The plant was completely renewed from 1931 to 1933. Below the plant is the 25,000 square meter nature reserve Dietiker and Geroldswiler Auen .

Today's production

Today (2017), electricity is produced for around 3,800 households in Dietikon. Depending on the flow of the Limmat, the plant can achieve an output of up to 2.6 megawatts. The maximum flow through the two turbines is 100 cubic meters per second.

The concession for the use of the Limmat water, which expired in 2011, was renewed in 2017 for a further 60 years. This means that the planned renewal of the power plant can be implemented from 2018.

To restore free fish migration, new fish ascent and descent aids are to be created. At the weir, a doping system is to generate additional electricity from renewable energy from the increased amount of residual water. The renewed Dietikon power plant should be able to produce energy for around 4,500 four-person households.
