The Oederlin power plant is a run-of-river power plant on the Limmat in the municipality of Obersiggenthal and Ennetbaden (Wehr) in the canton of Aargau . It is a small hydropower plant and is operated by Axpo Power AG as of 2017 .
history
In October 1858, the government council of the canton of Aargau granted Karl Oederlin permission to build a mechanical workshop on the Müsegg estate in Obersiggenthal-Rieden and operate it with the water wheel on the Limmat using two water wheels. The foundry, built in 1858 at the foot of the “Golden Wall” in Ennetbaden, was driven by two water wheels on an axle by means of mechanical transmission .
From 1882 the power plant also supplied the Grand Hotel in Baden . In 1896 the waterwheel was expanded into its own power station in order to be able to significantly increase production with the electrification of the manufacturing plant. In 1925 a turbine system was also installed. After an interruption of 25 years, the power plant started producing electricity again in 1944.
The power plant comprises two groups of machines. One half of the power plant with the Jonval turbine was converted while retaining the historical elements. The second has a Vevey - propeller turbine (built in 1925, BBC generator ) with fixed blades and a peer governor . In 1956 an angular gear was installed. The flywheel serves as a belt drive for the new generator.
In 1974 the power plant was shut down and in 1995 it was restarted.
Today's production
The small power plant with the two machine groups has an average annual electricity production of 0.5 GWh. The maximum water use is 12 m³ / s with a gross head of 2 m.
The area around the Oederlin weir is a demanding stretch of the Limmat for water drivers and pontooners and a training area for canoeists for white water tours.
