Krampus is an Italian folk metal band from Udine . The band name refers to the horror figure Krampus , the Alpine Advent tradition.

history

Originally from Italy, Krampus is an eight-piece folk and death metal band. In March 2011, the band released their first EP Shadows of Our Time . In summer 2011 the second EP Kronos' Heritage was released . In August 2012, the debut album Survival of the Fittest was released on NoiseArt Records after the band won the label's Rock the Nation Award last year .

Shortly before the Heidenfest tour 2012 with Wintersun , Korpiklaani , Varg and Trollfest , it became known that the drummer Carlo Andrian could no longer be a member of the band for health reasons after a lightning strike. This position has already been reassigned, the name of the new drummer is Hati Refaeli, who is also active in the German pagan metal band Equilibrium .

style

Many folk instruments are used, such as the bagpipes , flutes, pipes, violins and the Irish bouzouki . There is also a modern metal sound with heavy guitars and melodic keyboards. The predominantly guttural vocals are strongly oriented towards Death Metal. The texts relate to topics such as problems with people and nature and environmental awareness.

reception

Dieter Huebing rated Survival of the Fittest in the music magazine Legacy with 14 out of 15 possible points and compared the, in his opinion, “very strong debut” with the music of Equilibrium and Eluveitie . Frank Albrecht from Rock Hard magazine , on the other hand, was critical, awarded three out of ten possible points and described the “sound of the troupe” as “unbearable”.
