The Neuwerk hospital is a hospital in Roman Catholic tradition in the Neuwerk district in the north of Mönchengladbach . It was founded in 1889. The hospital has been part of the St. Augustinus Group since 2007 . It has ten medical departments with a total of 363 beds.

history

The establishment of the Neuwerk Order Hospital is closely linked to the work of Therese von Wüllenweber , who was beatified as Mary by the Apostles in 1968. In 1876 she acquired the vacant east wing of the Neuwerker monastery and turned it into a home for orphans (Barbara-Stift). Unfortunately, further plans failed because of the Kulturkampf . In 1888 she went to Rome to set up the Salvatorian Sisterhood together with Father Johann Baptist Jordan . In 1889 she then sold her share of the monastery to the pastor of Neuwerk, Hermann-Josef Koch.

The part of the building, which was vacant at the time, laid the foundation stone for the future order hospital. Koch brought the Franciscan Sisters of Penance and Christian Love from Heythuysen to Neuwerk and founded the future hospital in this part of the city with them in 1889. The official opening was on January 1, 1890 with the internal medicine and surgery departments , but the first patients were treated as early as December 1889. The Franciscan Sisters ran the hospital until the end of 1960 . In January 1961 the house was taken over again by the Salvatorians.

In 1964 the foundation stone for the new hospital building was laid. The first patients moved into the new building in 1966 so that the demolition work for the old hospital could begin. In 1968 the hospital was named after its founder, Mary of the Apostles. In addition to the specialist departments for internal medicine and surgery , the departments for gynecology and obstetrics as well as pediatric and adolescent medicine were founded, and between 1989 and 1990 the departments for anesthesiology , radiology and orthopedics .

In 2007 the Neuwerk hospital joined the clinic network of the St. Augustinus Group and has since been part of the largest clinic network on the Lower Rhine. Since January 1, 2020, the hospital has been managed by Managing Director Sebastian Baum and Medical Director Dinko Berkovic.

The hospital currently has ten medical departments.

Among the departments include internal medicine with the network geriatric medicine , the general and visceral surgery , the Obstetrics and Gynecology and Paediatrics . In addition to the Clinic for Orthopedics , Trauma Surgery , Spinal Surgery and Interventional Pain Therapy , other departments also include anesthesia with a focus on intensive care and emergency medicine , radiology and physiotherapy .

In addition, there is the Obesity Center Niederrhein, the Continence and Pelvic Floor Center and the Parent-Child Center Mönchengladbach.
