The Syke District Museum is a regional and open-air museum in Syke sponsored by the Diepholz district .

description

It was founded in 1937 by what was then County Hoya . Since 1977 it has been the district museum for the entire new district of Diepholz. It is located at the northern exit of Syke directly on the B 6 towards Barrien / Bremen.

On an area of 1.3 hectares, surrounded by forest, there are numerous larger and smaller historical buildings: farmhouse (1747; Low German hall house), two storage buildings (approx. 1612/1723), carriage remise , arable citizen house (1808), exhibition building ( New building), drive-through barn, Göpelhaus, Backhaus (1606) and others.

The focus of the exhibition is on old handicrafts, old rural production methods, housekeeping, children's life, school history, prehistory and early history and natural history. In addition, the district museum offers special activities throughout the year: baking and action days, special exhibitions and demonstrations of old craft techniques. From May to September there is a summer garden with a wooden bowling alley and catering on Sundays.

The museum works closely with the museum in the Zeughaus Vechta within the framework of “comparative regional research” .

Bernhard Dierking and Ferdinand Salfer (1964–1989) were honorary museum directors. Ralf Vogeding has been the full-time director since 1989 . In addition, volunteer helpers have been involved in the pedagogical area, in the care of the exhibits and in the preparation of information sheets for years.
