In 1989 the previously independent "Gemeindesparkasse Gauting" and "Kreissparkasse Starnberg" merged to form the "United Savings Banks in the Starnberg District". In 2005 the merger with the "Kreissparkasse des Landkreis München" took place to form the "Kreissparkasse München-Starnberg", which in 2011 became today's "Kreissparkasse München Starnberg Ebersberg" through another merger with the "Kreissparkasse Ebersberg". The aim in each case was to improve the earnings situation through cost savings and synergy effects. Four independent savings bank foundations continue the charitable efforts of the respective founding institute in the respective business area.
