The Kretische Aronstab ( Arum creticum ) is a plant from the genus Aronstab ( Arum ) in the family of Araceae (Araceae).
description
The Cretan Arum is a perennial , autumn-spring green tuber that reaches heights of 30 to 55 centimeters. The tuber is vertical and disc-shaped. The spathe is yellow to cream in color and measures (5) 7 to 24 × 3 to 5.5 inches in size. Its hem is twice as long as the tube. It was repulsed during flowering. The spadix is usually colored yellow and 7 to 16.5 inches long. The appendages of the spadix are (4) 6 to 12 centimeters, deep yellow, and protrude far. They smell sweet. There are no sterile flowers or there are only a few below the male flowers. The inflorescence smells of lemon.
The flowering period extends from March to May.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 28.
Occurrence
The Cretan Arum occurs in the South Aegean and Southwest Turkey in forests, in rocky Phrygana , in garrigues , on piles of gravel and on nutrient-rich, calcareous clay soils at altitudes from 0 to 1500 meters.
