Kristýna (German Christinasee , also Christianensee ) is an open pit lake in the Czech Republic . It is located one and a half kilometers northwest of the city of Hrádek nad Nisou in the Okres Liberec .
geography
The lake is located on the right side of the Lusatian Neisse in the Zittau Basin on the Loučná cadastre . One kilometer to the north, at the confluence of the Ullersbach and the Neisse, is the triangle between the Czech Republic, Poland and Germany . 400 meters east of it the road from Hrádek nad Nisou / Porajów leads over a kilometer of Polish territory to Zittau . A hiking and bridle path leads south from Hartau to the lake.
Surrounding places are Porajów in the north, Luptin , Kopaczów and Oldřichov na Hranicích in the northeast, Hrádek nad Nisou in the southeast, Loučná in the south, Hartau in the west and Zittau in the northwest.
history
The Christianenschacht lignite mine was opened in 1822 by the owners of the Grafenstein lordship , the Counts Clam-Gallas on the Neisse meadows. Originally the dismantling took place in civil engineering. Open-cast mining began in 1892.
In the 1930s, the Christianenschacht mine was the only mine in operation in the Reichenberg district . In 1930 64 workers were employed and the production amounted to 260,695 quintals of coal. In 1945 the Counts of Clam-Gallas were expropriated. After the Second World War, the mine sank. In 1957, GEOFOND ČR in Prague opened a new open-cast mine to the north. On January 1st, 1968 the Důl Kristina colliery was subordinated to the newly founded Palivový Kombi Antonína Zápotockého, národní podnik, Užín (Antonín Zápotocký Fuel Combination , National Enterprise, Užín). Lignite mining on Důl Kristina was stopped at the end of April 1972.
The coal seams lay at a depth of two to 25 m below the overburden and had an average thickness of three to five, maximum twelve meters.
The drained old pit was converted into a swimming lake at the beginning of the 1980s; the embankments were leveled and beaches were created. Then began the redesign of the surrounding area to a recreation and sports area. At the same time, the outdoor swimming pool in Hrádek nad Nisou was given up.
Today the site is owned by Kristýna as, whose main shareholder is the city of Hrádek nad Nisou. A guesthouse, a cottage settlement and a campsite were built on the northern bank. There are also two beach restaurants and some snack bars. The north and north-east bank are sandy beaches, in the south-east meadows extend to the lake. The western bank is formed by a wooded dam to the Neisse, which is natural and slopes steeply to the lake. This area is mainly used by anglers.
During the heavy rain on August 7, 2010, the overcrowded lake broke through the dam to the Neisse.
