Kristian Commichau (born as Kristian Drews ; born January 29, 1959 in Glückstadt ) is a German conductor , choir director and university lecturer .

Live and act

Commichau is the son of the Kiel music teacher Karl-Heinz Drews. He gained his first musical experience as a boy's voice at the Kiel Opera House and with instrumental lessons. From 1982 to 1988 he studied school music and choral conducting with Christian Grube and conducting with Harry Lyth at the Universität der Künste Berlin (UdK), taught as an assistant choral conducting at the UdK and worked in the Staats- und Domchor Berlin . From 1984 to 1988 he took over the church choir Cappella Kreuzberg and in 1987 founded the chamber choir vocal-concertisten, with which he won various prizes at home and abroad.

From 1988 to 1995 he worked as a teacher at the Alten Gymnasium Flensburg and at the Ludwig-Meyn-Gymnasium Uetersen. He directed the Uetersen choir boys , with whom he took part in the German Choir Competition and a. participated in the danced St. Matthew Passion by Bach in the choreography by John Neumeier in the Hamburg Michel .

In 1995, Commichau was appointed professor of conducting at the University of Potsdam . There he founded the Campus Cantabile Choir and the Sinfonietta Potsdam University Orchestra. From 2000 to 2010 he was a permanent guest conductor of the Mecklenburg Chamber Soloists, a chamber orchestra of the North German Philharmonic Rostock .

In addition to the choir and orchestra work, opera productions and theater music are also part of his repertoire. Commichau worked a. a. with Christine Schäfer , Christiane Oelze , Thomas Quasthoff , Annette Dasch , Walter Jens , Friedrich Schorlemmer and Thekla Carola Wied . As a guest conductor he led the RIAS Chamber Choir , Concerto Brandenburg and the Hamburg Baroque Orchestra.

Working with authentic instruments according to historical playing instructions and the music of the 20th century are among his artistic focuses. Concerts have taken him to other European countries such as Israel, Australia, North America, India, South America, Canada, Ghana, Bolivia and China. Commichau has often been invited there to lead master classes or choir workshops.
