The RIAS Chamber Choir is a professional Berlin chamber choir of national renown. It is organized under the umbrella of the Rundfunk-Orchester und -Chöre gGmbH Berlin.

history

The RIAS Chamber Choir was founded in 1948 as the RIAS radio choir . One of its most important provisions should be the promotion of contemporary music. In addition to the standard repertoire for chamber choirs, he has repeatedly performed works by numerous contemporary composers. Some composers created works especially for this choir. Numerous compositions were premiered or premiered in Germany through him. During the 18 years of leadership under Günther Arndt, the choir has already made numerous recordings with well-known singers, such as Rudolf Schock, with the choir, which is sometimes referred to on records as the Günther Arndt Choir .

The ensemble has received numerous international honors and awards for its musical merits: In 2008, the choir was awarded the ECHO Klassik for the third time in a row . In 2010 the British trade journal Grammophone voted the RIAS Chamber Choir among the ten best choirs in the world. In 2013 he received the Nightingale Prize from the Jury of the German Record Critics' Prize. The CD Magnificat , published by Harmonia Mundi France, was awarded the quarterly prize of the German Record Critics' Prize in 2014 after being selected as Editor's Choice by British music magazine Grammophone and Choix by Fance Musique . In 2014 the choir received the ECHO Klassik in the category “Choral work recording of the year” and in the category “Audiophile multi-channel recording of the year” with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin under the direction of René Jacobs for Johann Sebastian Bach's St. Matthew Passion .
