Kristin Bühler-Oppenheim (born March 16, 1915 in Basel ; died 1984 ) was a Swiss textile ethnologist .
Life
Kristin Oppenheim was born as the second youngest daughter of the German military doctor Erich Alfons Oppenheim and his Swiss wife Eva Wenger. Her older sister was Meret Oppenheim . The siblings spent their childhood in Delsberg in the Bernese Jura with their grandmother Lisa Wenger , after the end of the First World War they lived in Steinen in southern Germany.
At the Philosophical-Historical Faculty of the University of Basel , she did her doctorate in 1941 under Felix Speiser with a thesis on a collection of textiles and plaiting that Fritz Sarasin set up in New Caledonia and the Loyalty Islands between 1910 and 1912 . From 1941 to 1946 she worked as an assistant at the Basel Museum of Ethnology and the Swiss Museum of Folklore . In 1943 she married the Basel ethnologist and explorer Alfred Bühler , who in 1950 became director of the Museum für Völkerkunde, now the Basel Museum of Cultures . They had three children. She also worked and published with Alfred Bühler. She continued to deal with the systematics of textile techniques. The Bühler couple were regarded as excellent experts in the field of textiles , received the extensive textile collection of the industrialist Fritz Iklé-Huber as a bequest in 1946 and in turn donated them to the Basel Museum. The scientific study and documentation was published in 1948. It became known as the Basler Systematik and was revised and expanded again in 1973 and 1991 by Annemarie Seiler-Baldinger .
