Lisa Wenger

Lisa Wenger (born January 23, 1858 in Bern , † October 17, 1941 in Carona / Ticino ) was a Swiss artist , writer , children's book author and painter .

Life

Lisa Ruutz was the daughter of the cloth merchant Heinrich Ruutz and his wife Elise, née Haller. She took painting lessons from Hans Sandreuter in Basel and then studied art in Paris , Florence and at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . From 1881 she ran a studio school for porcelain painting in Basel . In 1890 she married the factory owner Théo Wenger , moved to Courtételle ( Delémont ), which at that time still belonged to the Bernese Jura , and began to write.

Her first stories appeared as serial series in newspapers, among others in the " Swiss Women's Calendar " published by Clara Büttiker . With her imaginative novels and stories from everyday life, she became one of the most widely read Swiss authors of the 1930s. One of her well-known children's books was Joggeli söll ga Birli schüttle , which was set to music by Franz Tischhauser (composer) under the title Die Hampeloper and premiered in Zurich in 1986. She also wrote fairy tales and plays.

Her daughter Ruth Wenger was briefly married to Hermann Hesse and her granddaughter Meret Oppenheim also became a well-known artist. Another grandson from her daughter's marriage to UFA actor Erich Haußmann , theater and film actor Ezard Haußmann , was successful on stage and in front of television cameras. His son Leander Haussmann is a well-known director.
