The Kubenasee ( Russian Кубенское озеро , Kubenskoje-See) is a 109 m high lake in northwestern Russia . It lies in the Oblast Vologda in Federal District Northwest Russia . To the southeast of the lake is the city of Vologda and to the east Kadnikow .
The lake with an area of 407 square kilometers is at its greatest extent 60 kilometers long and 15 kilometers wide. The average depth is three meters. The water level fluctuates by up to 1.5 m. The lake is fed by the Kubena , the Uftjuga and the Porosowiza . The Suchona drains the Kubenasee and flows northeast to the Northern Dvina .
The following fish are caught in the lake: white salmon ( Stenodus leucichthys nelma ), pike , pikeperch and bream .
The Schartenhöhen reference point of the highest mountain in the Alps, Mont Blanc, is located near the lake .
