The Kuckssee is a lake in the municipality of the same name Kuckssee in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

geography

The seven-hectare body of water is located three kilometers north of the city of Penzlin in the Kuckssee and Lapitzer See nature reserve . The lake area has roughly the shape of a triangle with rounded corners. There is a trench connection to Lake Lapitz to the southeast . The Kuckssee is surrounded by alder forests and bog areas and is therefore difficult to access. The terrain rises relatively steeply to the west. The Kukuksberg, located about 250 meters west of the shoreline, is 73.8  m above sea level. NHN and thus about 34 meters above the water level.

The lake and the moor areas surrounding it drain through trenches, Wurzbach and Malliner See towards Tollense .

history

Kuckssee and Lapitzer See lie in a glacial channel that was created during the Pomeranian advance of the Vistula Ice Age and was additionally expanded by meltwater.

On Wiebeking's map from 1786, only an originally runoff-free body of water called Labitzer See is recorded in the channel . Due to the connection with the Malliner See , a drainage towards Tollense was created in the 19th century . The lake level sank by 80 cm and wide silting belts formed . What remains today are two smaller open water areas. The area was placed under nature protection on June 13, 1995.
