The spherical gorse ( Genista radiata ), also known as ray gorse , is a type of plant from the genus of gorse ( Genista ) within the legume family (Fabaceae).
description
The spherical gorse is a dense, bulky shrub with a typical gorse habit that reaches heights of up to 1 meter. The few against continuously arranged on the branches of deciduous leaves are triple feathered with linealischen leaflets.
The flowering period extends from May to August. A fully grown plant bears numerous golden yellow flowers with a broad, edged flag . The legume is about 5 cm long and has silky hair on the outside.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 60 or 96.
Occurrence
The spherical gorse occurs in the southern Alps , in the northern and central Apennines and on the Balkan peninsula in the montane zone. It is often found on dry, stony slopes, together with the Scots pine ( Pinus sylvestris ).
Taxonomy
The first description was made of this kind in 1753 by (L.) in Species Plantarum , 2, p 708 under the Basionym radiatum Spartium . Johann Anton Scopoli placed them in Flora Carniolica , Editio Secunda 2, p. 51 in the genus Genista in 1772 . Homonyms for Genista radiata (L.) Scop. are Genista radiata Friedr. ex C. Presl and Genista radiata DC. Synonyms are Cytisanthus radiatus (L.) O. Lang and Cytisus radiatus W.DJ Koch .
