Dąbrowa Chełmińska ( German before 1866 Dombrowken , 1866–1942 Damerau , 1942–1945 Kulmischdamerau ) is a village in the powiat Bydgoski of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland . It is the seat of the rural community of the same name with around 8,200 inhabitants and belongs to the historic Kulmer Land .
history
The place was first mentioned in 1285 as Damerowe and was Prussian until 1505 . After that he was part of Poland under the name Dombrowka until 1772. After the first partition of Poland , the place was again Prussian. After the Tilsiter peace in July 1807 Dąbrowa became part of the Duchy of Warsaw under Frederick August III. After the Congress of Vienna in 1815, it fell back to Prussia, and from 1920 it was again in Polish territory. After the German invasion of Poland in 1939, the place was occupied by the Wehrmacht . In January and February 1945 Dąbrowa was fought over by German and Soviet troops and partially destroyed. After the end of the Second World War , the German population was expelled .
As Dąbrowa Chełmińska is only 20 km from downtown Bydgoszcz , the municipality is becoming a popular place to live, especially for commuters. In addition, because of its location in the middle of forest areas, which take up almost half of the municipality's area, the municipality is a popular local recreation area. That is why numerous nature reserves were created in and around the community.
