Cultural ring. Journal of the cultural associations in Hanover was the title of a journal that wanted to promote cooperation in the planning and advertising of events of culturally active associations in Hanover and Lower Saxony . The publisher of the paper, which appeared up to 2000 with occasionally changing subtitles, was the Kulturring Hannover , an association initiated by the entrepreneur Heinz Appel during the Weimar Republic .

history

The magazine appeared for the first time in 1924 as a newsletter of the offices of Lower Saxony associations and was given its name in 1928 as a culture ring, initially with the subtitle Mitteilungsblatt ... , later the journal of the culture associations in Hanover . Right from the start, the publisher's office was financially supported by her newspaper subscribers and a regular grant from the city of Hanover.

The periodical was after the same club after the Nazi seizure of power from 1 August 1933, the Nazi organization Combat League for German Culture was joined temporarily the title additional Kampfbund for German culture, local group Hanover . In addition to event dates and association news and reports, it now also contained content corresponding to Nazi ideology.

While in the course of the " Gleichschaltung " in the April issue of 1934 the work in the "Ring" was expressly described as "service to the rebuilding of our Führer Adolf Hitler", the Kampfbund ... surprisingly left the publishing association in March 1934 . From 1934 until 1938 the magazine was subtitled Arbeitsgemeinschaft Hannoverscher Kulturvereine . A review published in 1936 under the heading “12 years of culture ring” explained that “the merging of the old cultural associations with a distinct fighting organization had not proven itself in the long run”.

In the post-war period and with the approval of the British military authorities , the culture ring was given the subtitle Arbeitsgemeinschaft Wissenschaftlicher und Kulturvereine in Hanover from 1946 .

Since the publishing association no longer held any events of its own after determining its position from 1968 onwards and later both the number of newspaper subscribers and the city subsidy was reduced, the association lost its financial base. A good year after its 75th anniversary celebrations, the Kulturring Hannover made the decision to dissolve it on December 6, 2000 - at the same time the end of its magazine.
