The Mittelhessen cultural summer is a cultural festival in central Hesse . It has been held annually since 1992 from mid-June to mid-September. Every season, up to 18,000 people interested in culture visit over 130 events at up to 50 venues. The events are resonating across the region. The festival was brought into being by the regional council of Gießen . Kultursommer Mittelhessen eV is responsible for organizing the festival . In addition to the Mittelhessen cultural summer, the Mittelhessischer Kinderkultursommer has been running at the same time since 2007 .

tasks and goals

The Central Hesse cultural summer should

  • enable and promote artistic encounters (regional, national, international),
  • Support projects that otherwise could not take place for financial reasons,
  • Promote joint projects (e.g. through collaboration between different artists or different organizers),
  • are held at unusual venues,
  • address all artistic fields and
  • upgrade the Central Hesse location.

Organizers of the Mittelhessen Kultursommer can apply to participate in the festival until October 31 of each year. A jury selects the events. The venue must be in the five central Hesse districts of Lahn-Dill , Vogelsberg , Limburg-Weilburg , Marburg-Biedenkopf , Gießen or the Wetteraukreis . The festival is organized and made known in cooperation with the organizers. This is coordinated in the office of the sponsoring association Kultursommer Mittelhessen eV The Kultursommer 2019 will open on June 16 at Gleiberg Castle.

Like the other cultural summers in North and South Hesse and Main-Kinzig , the Central Hesse cultural summer is funded by the Hessian Ministry for Science and Art and the Sparkassen Kulturstiftung Hessen-Thüringen . In Central Hesse, the cities of Marburg , Gießen , Wetzlar and the six cultural summer districts, as well as other sponsors, are also involved.
