Kuno Dewitz

Kuno Dewitz (born October 17, 1897 in Soldau , † January 3, 1960 in Friedrichsort ) was a German major general in the Wehrmacht .

Life

Dewitz occurred during the First World War on 11 June 1915 as an ensign in the reserve battalion of the Danziger Infantry Regiment. 128 of the Prussian army one. After an ensign course in Döberitz , he was transferred to the field regiment on December 3, 1915 . There he was promoted to lieutenant on November 6, 1916 . For his achievements during the war Dewitz received both classes of the Iron Cross and the Wound Badge in Black.

Dewitz joined the Wehrmacht and taught at the Potsdam War School from October 1, 1937. With the German attack on Poland on September 1, 1939, he was assigned to the troops as battalion commander. From January 19, 1942 to January 30, 1944, Dewitz was in command of the 9th Infantry Regiment . For leading the regiment, Dewitz was awarded the German Cross in Gold on July 9, 1942 . In the spring of 1944, he was transferred to the Infantry School for Fahnenjunker in Dresden as deputy commander . There he worked from May 1 to June 15, 1944. He then led the infantry school in Wiener Neustadt as commander . On April 1, 1945 Dewitz was appointed commander of the 245th Infantry Division , which he led until the German surrender and thus the end of the war. After the war he was taken prisoner by the British Army . Dewitz was released from this office on June 30, 1947.
