The University of the Arts ( Albanian  Universiteti i Arteve ) in Albania's capital Tirana is a public university of arts . As the most important art school in the country, it was attended by almost all trained Albanian artists, insofar as they did not study abroad. Until April 2011 it was called Akademie der Künste ( Albanian  Akademia e Arteve ).

Organization and facilities

The University of the Arts has three faculties: Music , Fine Arts and Theater . It currently has almost 1,000 students and not quite 400 lecturers .

The university campus has a theater hall and various lecture rooms.

The affiliated Scientific Library of the University of the Arts (Biblioteka Shkencore e Universitetit të Arteve) founded in 1966 is the largest and most important university library of the arts in Albania. It mainly offers specialist literature from art history , but also general literature. The current inventory is around 35,000 books (including digital literature), documents, catalogs, magazines, audio-visual materials, etc., including many unique items .

history

The college was founded in 1966 as the Higher Institute of Arts (Institut i Lartë i Arteve) , the State Conservatory of Tirana (Conservatori Shtetëror i Tiranës) , the School of Fine Arts (Shkolla e Arteve të Bukura) and the Drama School Aleksander Moisiu ( Shkolla e Lartë e Aktorëve Aleksander Moisiu ) were merged.

Through an educational reform in 1990 the college was recognized as a university and renamed first to Akademia e Arteve and in April 2011 to Universiteti i Arteve .
