Giannozzo Art Association

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Art Association Giannozzo ( Giannozzo , Association for the Promotion of Current Plastic Art eV) was an art association founded in 1987 in Berlin, which was liquidated in 2008 and has expired. Its name refers to the story "The Airship Giannozzo Seebuch" by Jean Paul . Until 1990 the association had a permanent exhibition space in Suarezstrasse in Berlin-Charlottenburg .

He presented sculptural works by artists that go beyond the conventional concept of sculpture . The focus of the Kunstverein's program was on spatial and situational artistic works and those that incorporate the time dimension into the actual sculpture, such as sound installations and performances .

history

The association was founded by the artists Ulrich Eller , Rolf Julius , Rolf Langebartels , Norbert Radermacher and others as well as the philosopher Hannes Böhringer . The association continued the work of the Giannozzo Gallery, which Rolf Langebartels ran from 1978 to 1986 in Berlin as a non-profit gallery. Rolf Langebartels was the artistic director as managing director from 1987 to 2001. Christine Hoffmann then took on the role of managing director until 2006.

Installations were shown in the association's room, mostly sound installations such as B. Joe Jones Music Store in 1990. Another focus was artistic work in other places and in other areas of the city, such as B. in the Kulturforum Villa Oppenheim in Berlin-Charlottenburg or in the basement of Monumentenstrasse 24 in Berlin-Kreuzberg . From 1990 to 1993, the Giannozzo Art Association organized a series of Giannozzo LIVE festivals with concerts and performances. The festivals were documented on video DVDs by Ingo Krati. Similar festivals followed in 1996 and 1998 in Baitz , Brandenburg.

The Kunstverein organized a series of symposia that presented lectures by scientists and philosophers as well as works by artists, composers and performers. Hannes Böhringer headed the three symposia "Discretio. Separation lines and connecting lines between art, music and science", Symposium in Juleum, Helmstedt , 1988, "Dangerous living, Symposium on the concept of the experimental in art and science", Einstein Tower on Telegraphenberg, Potsdam, 1991 together with Merve Verlag and "Symposium Feedback. The Phenomenon of Feedback in Art and Science", Plasy Monastery , Bohemia, Czech Republic, 1994.

The reason for the dissolution of the Kunstverein in 2008 was that it did not succeed in obtaining continuous, institutional, financial support. The association financed its work through membership fees and mainly through project funds, such as B. the Initiative Neue Musik Berlin , Berlin or the Stiftung Kunstfonds , Bonn. The artistic direction of the art association Giannozzo was a voluntary activity . As of 2007, no more people could be found for this.
