The Roman Catholic Kuratienkirche Gurtis is located in the village of Gurtis in the municipality of Nenzing in the Bludenz district in Vorarlberg . It is the feast of the Visitation consecrated and belongs to the parish Nenzing in deanery Walgau-Walser Valley in the diocese of Feldkirch . The building is under monument protection ( list entry ).

The church is surrounded by a walled cemetery.

history

A chapel was built in the second half of the 17th century. This was restored in 1737 and made an expositur in 1790 . In 1791 a new building was erected, which was consecrated in 1820. A restoration took place in 1929.

architecture

Church exterior

The church consists of a late baroque nave with sloping walls towards the retracted choir . The choir and nave are under a shared, slightly bent gable roof. The north tower has a pointed gable helmet. The tower has flat arch sound windows on the lower floor and two arched sound openings from 1890 on the upper floor. The brick porch has a pent roof . The nave and choir have no three-dimensional structure and are broken through by arched windows. The gable facade has an ox-eye window . The arched portal is chamfered.

Church interior

The nave is 3½ bays long. Above it is a vaulted cap that rests on pillars. There are three arched windows on both sides. The corners of the retracted triumphal arch on pillars are rounded. The choir is single yoke and has a 3/8 end. Above it is a stitch cap vault. The stitch caps in the choir and nave are decorated with profiled stucco strips. In the west of the nave there is a straight gallery. The ceiling frescoes are by Floris Scheel from Feldkirch . They were renovated in 1929. The choir depicts “ Mary with Child and Saints Dominic and Martin ”. " Ascension of Christ " is shown above the nave .

Furnishing

The high altar by Josef Römer from 1793 is a baroque structure with four columns on a staggered base and cranked entablature. It is decorated with volutes and rocailles . The altarpiece shows the Visitation of the Virgin Mary . It was painted in 1918 by Floris Scheel after Carl Müller. The upper picture shows Saint John Nepomuk and dates from 1793. The altarpiece is flanked by figures of Saints Dominic and Catherine . On the entablature are two angels by Josef Klemens widower from 1793. The tabernacle is in the Empire style . Instead of the left side altar there is a figure of St. Joseph , instead of the right side altar there is a figure of St. Mary. Both were created in 1964 by Fischenzeller with two putti each . The baptismal font with a group of figures "Baptism of Christ" is baroque, the stations of the cross by Anton Marte are from the 20th century. The crucifix on the left choir wall was created in the middle of the 17th century. The communion benches and confessionals were made by A. Jehly in 1896.

The organ was made by Anton Behmann in 1904.

Peal

The bell was cast before 1664.
