Kurt Engel (vibraphonist)
Kurt Engel (* 6. April 1909 in Berlin , † 7. August 1967 ) was a German percussionist and composer who in jazz and the popular music as a xylophone - vibraphone and - marimba player has emerged.
Engel made numerous records between 1927 and the 1950s, including swing tracks for the Kristall (San Francisco) , Telefunken and Metrophon labels. Musicians such as Benny de Weille , Kurt Hohenberger , Franz Thon , Mike Danzi and Ernst Höllerhagen participated in his 'dance rhythmic' ; he also worked with Rudi Schuricke and the orchestras of James Kok (The Funny Vibraphonist) , Erhard Bauschke , Hans Bund , Adalbert Lutter , Oscar Joost and Heinz Buschhagen. Engel recently worked as a timpanist in the RIAS dance orchestra , with which he also recorded.
The pop singer Detlef Engel is his son.
