Hans Bund (also Jack Bund , born August 15, 1898 in Neunkirchen (Saarland) , † February 1, 1982 in Rottach-Egern ) was a German pianist , conductor , composer and arranger in the field of popular music .

Life

He got his first piano lessons from his father, who was a music teacher in Saarbrücken . He then studied piano and organ at the Cologne Conservatory with Elly Ney and at the Dr. Hoch's Conservatory in Frankfurt (Main) . He later went to Berlin , continued his training at the Academic University of Music in the subjects of piano, organ, counterpoint , composition and conducting with Ernst von Dohnányi , among others , and graduated in 1919 with distinction.

In the early 1930s he founded the “Hans Bund Jazz Orchestra” at the Berlin cabaretSchall und Rauch ”, which he directed as a pianist and for which he wrote the arrangements. In 1932 he joined him a. a. in the film Der Sieger with Hans Albers . After it was renamed the “Bravour Orchestra”, other film and radio productions followed. He accompanied singers such as Gerda Gerold , Erna Sack , Mimi Thoma , Erwin Hartung , Fritzi Massary , Ernst Rolf , Rudi Schuricke and Richard Tauber and produced records for Carl Lindström , Telefunken , Odeon and Polydor . When he came to the Reichsender Berlin in 1932 , he had a small ensemble for light music there at the end of the 1930s: “Bunds Piano-Rhythmiker”. In 1942 he took over the orchestra from Otto Dobrindt .

After the end of National Socialism , he was employed by the British supervisor for music at the NWDR , Captain Ken Bartlett, at the Funkhaus Köln in April 1946 to put together a new band. He then founded a 35-man orchestra that had its first concert in June 1946 and from which the WDR Radio Orchestra Cologne developed in 1947 . As a smaller formation, he formed a new ensemble at WDR in 1948 called "Hans Bund und seine Solisten", which preferred a more chamber music style of making music and which he directed until 1959. After leaving the WDR in 1962, he moved to his retirement home in Rottach-Egern in Bavaria and still composed pieces in the field of popular music.
