Kurt Kracker

Hermann Kurt crackers (* 13. May 1916 in Borna , † 24. December 1966 in Wesel ) was a German local politician . From 1956 until his death he was mayor of Wesel.

Career

In his hometown Borna, Kracker completed an apprenticeship as a wood turner and then trained as a Protestant deacon in Neinstedt in the Harz Mountains . As such, he worked in the care of people with disabilities. He was a soldier during World War II and was taken prisoner. After his release he moved to Mönchengladbach , where he had married his wife in 1942.

Kracker had been a member of the public services, transport and traffic union since 1946 and in 1948 became union secretary for the Rees and Dinslaken districts with an office in Wesel. In 1952 he moved for the SPD into the Wesel city council and the district council of the Rees district and was a member of both bodies until his death. On November 12, 1956, he was elected mayor of the city of Wesel. At that time, the mayor had a predominantly representative function and formed a dual position with the city director, who was in charge of the municipal administration. During Kracker's entire term of office, Karl-Heinz Reuber was the city director. He took on several other offices, including at the Verbands-Sparkasse Wesel and the Weseler Bauverein. In 1961 he was also deputy district administrator for Rees County. At that time, the district administrator only had representative tasks. With regard to his office as mayor, Kracker was considered committed and close to the people. On December 22, 1966, he was seriously injured in a traffic accident on Bundesstraße 8 near Bergerfurth between Wesel and Rees. Two days later he died of the consequences of the accident in the Protestant hospital in Wesel . In May 1967 a newly created underpass was inaugurated under the railway facilities near the Wesel train station. The section of road created there and its continuation into the district of Fusternberg (formerly Bleicherstraße ) were named Kurt-Kräcker-Straße in honor of the deceased mayor.
