Kurt Müller (cyclist)

Kurt Müller (born May 22, 1938 in Nauen ) is a former German cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

His first club was the BSG Stahl Hennigsdorf , where he started cycling in 1952. "Kutte" was able to bring home more than 20 winning ribbons from youth races. He competed in road races , track races and cross-country races with equal success. Since 1958 he started for SC Dynamo Berlin . His second place in Rund um Berlin 1958 behind the victorious Rudi Kirchhoff was a first great success. He also won the traditional Berlin – Angermünde – Berlin race that year . From 1959 Müller was a member of the GDR national team . His first international assignment was in 1959 on the Tour of Romania , which he finished fifth. A year later he won the Tour of Egypt . He also started on the Tour of Sweden, Tour of Tunisia and Tour of Morocco . When he started in the GDR Tour , 4th place in 1961 with a stage win was his best place. Müller won the GDR championship from 1961 to 1964 and 1966 in the team time trial with SC Dynamo Berlin (he was runner-up in 1965). From the traditional GDR road races, he won the Grenzland Prize in 1960. In 1963 he won the longest road race in the GDR, Berlin – Cottbus – Berlin . 1964 followed the victory at Around Sebnitz , which Eddy Merckx had won the year before .
