Kurt Matschke

Kurt Matschke (born May 4, 1908 in Domsel , Silesia , † May 16, 1984 in Lemgo ) was a German SS-Hauptsturmführer , leader of Sonderkommando 7a of Einsatzgruppe B and a convicted war criminal .

Life

Matschke studied law at the University of Breslau ; for financial reasons, the course was not completed. From 1931 to 1933 he worked as a legal advisor at the Schlesische Landberatungs-GmbH. In 1932 he became a member of the NSDAP and the SS . From April 1934 he worked first with the Gestapo Liegnitz , then in Saarbrücken . He was head of Section II a (Combating Communism and Marxism). In October 1941 he was sent to Einsatzgruppe B in the Soviet Union , where he was in charge of Sonderkommando 7a from December 1941 to February 1942. In this position he directed the shootings of the Jews in Klinzy and Starodub . From 1942 he was head of the Jewish department of the Gestapo in Cologne . Matschke was involved in the deportation of around 12,000 Jews to Riga , Minsk , Theresienstadt , Lublin and the Auschwitz concentration camp .

In 1948 he was sentenced to two years imprisonment by the Bielefeld Chamber of Justice because of his membership in the SS. He had been in custody since November 27, 1952. In July 1954, the Cologne Regional Court sentenced him to two years in prison for his involvement in the deportation of Cologne Jews to extermination camps and ghettos . From July 8, 1962 to October 29, 1962, he was again in custody. The Essen Regional Court sentenced him to five years in prison on February 10, 1966 for his involvement in the extermination of Jews in the Soviet Union.
