Kurt Prokscha (born February 2, 1919 in Hindenburg ; † January 23, 1998 in Riedlingen ) was a German conductor and music director .

Life

Prokscha grew up in Gleiwitz . After graduating from high school there, he studied music in Brieg . The conscription to the Wehrmacht took him to Eckernförde, where he belonged to a music corps stationed there. Shortly after the end of the Second World War, Prokscha was co-founder and musical director of the first post-war symphony orchestra for Schleswig-Holstein in Eckernförde : the Schleswig-Holstein Concert Orchestra GmbH. After the company had to file for bankruptcy due to the currency reform in 1948 and the "pure orchestra", which continued as the "former Schleswig-Holstein Concert Orchestra", only performed too few appearances, Prokscha accepted an offer from Bad Buchau in 1950 and took over the management of one there as the city's music director Choir and the city band, which he soon expanded into a symphonic "City Orchestra Bad Saulgau - Riedlingen - Bad Buchau". At the same time, he directed other symphonic orchestras in the southern part of Baden-Württemberg - for example the Municipal Orchestra of the City of Friedrichshafen - and worked as a music teacher. With the Friedrichshafen Municipal Orchestra, Prokscha also provided the musical framework for the SWF harbor concerts. In 1992 Prokscha stopped working for health reasons.

In 1982, Prokscha was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his work .
