Kurt Traenckner (born December 19, 1901 in Sachsenburg , today in Frankenberg / Sa. , † April 2, 1959 in Essen ) was a German engineer and manager of the energy industry. He made significant contributions to the development of the gas industry.

life and work

Kurt Traenckner was the son of a state institute inspector. He studied at the Georg-August University in Göttingen , the University of Leipzig and the TH Karlsruhe . In 1920 he was reciprocated in the Corps Hercynia Göttingen . In 1926 he completed his studies with a degree in engineering . In the same year he joined the administration of the corporation for coal utilization , the forerunner of Ruhrgas AG. In 1954 he became a member of the Ruhrgas Executive Board.

With effect from May 1, 1937, Traenckner was a member of the NSDAP ; At the time he joined Ruhrgas, he was an authorized signatory in the gas technology division. In the course of the war, the Nazi state Traenckner, which also belonged to the SA and the SS , transferred functions that brought him significant economic influence on the gas industry. Unlike his colleague Walther Wunsch , who joined the party at the same time, worked in the same position at Ruhrgas in the pipeline construction division and like Traenckner determined the development of the company as a board member after the war, Traenckner was, according to the unanimous opinion of the Denazification Committee, a staunch National Socialist and I put his SS membership on show. However, the committee acknowledged that he was not capable of crimes against law and humanity due to his “disposition” and that he had not exerted any political pressure in the company. He was therefore only classified as a “ fellow traveler ” in the arbitration chamber proceedings .

Traenckner is considered a pioneer in the German gas industry. He was involved in the research association Ruhrgas-Bergbauverein-Demag and after 1945 was entrusted with the supervision of the newly created research center of Ruhrgas AG. By building and planning pipelines and facilities for gas cleaning and gas storage, he made a significant contribution to the rise of Ruhrgas AG to become Germany's leading long-distance gas supplier.

Honors

For his achievements in the field of coal upgrading , in particular the gas generation that gave him TH Berlin the honorary doctorate . The German Association for Gas and Water (DVGW) awarded him the Bunsen-Pettenkofer Honor Roll in 1959 .
