Life

Kurt Votava was also known as a conférencier and announcer in the 1970s. In this role he moderated numerous shows and was the announcer at many concert events, including in the Wiener Stadthalle . Back then it was customary to use an announcer at rock concerts to announce the motto of the band or their tour. On July 19, 1976, Votava hosted the program “Motorists on the move” for the first time.

Votava also acted as a reporter for the ORF's Vienna studio and was one of the first media representatives to pass on a report when the Reichsbrücke collapsed on August 1, 1976 immediately after the disaster. His very good relations with the fire brigade and police made a major contribution to such operations , which meant that he received certain information earlier than many others.

In the 1970s and 1980s, he was often assigned by the Vienna Studio when reporting on official events of the City of Vienna abroad, as he enjoyed excellent relationships with the leading social democratic city politicians. In 1978 he had to report on the exhibition Wintertime in Vienna from Chicago, and in 1979 from Australia. In 1980 Votava succeeded Walter Niesner as head of the motorist show.

He was honored with high awards even in his middle years. In the mid-1980s he married Renate Wolff, the then junior manager of the well-known Wolff wine tavern in Neustift am Walde , a village part of Vienna's 19th district ; since then he has been using the family name Wolff-Votava. In addition to his professional work, Wolff-Votava was active in the Vienna Red Cross; 1990–1999 he was the state rescue commander of this organization .

In the 1990s he struggled with protracted health problems after an accident, but then resumed his moderation work. On April 5, 1999, Wolff-Votava hosted the last "Motorists on the Road" program. Today he is sometimes referred to as an ORF legend .

Kurt Votava's son Gerald Votava , born in 1970 , one of Kurt Votava's four children, followed in the footsteps of his father, whom he only met at the age of 18. He works as a radio presenter on ORF ( FM4 ), singer, cabaret artist and actor. Kurt Wolff-Votava also has two daughters and another son.
