Kurt von Unruh
Kurt von Unruh (born October 30, 1894 in Hanover ; † February 22, 1986 in Roding ) was a German painter and came from an old noble family . He was the brother of the writers Fritz and Friedrich Franz von Unruh .
Life
After training as an officer , Unruh retired from military service in 1913 and turned to painting. During his time as a war volunteer he took part in courses at the Berlin Art Academy through Max Liebermann's 1916/17 , attended the sculpture class at the Frankfurt School of Applied Arts in 1918 and apprenticed with the stage painter August Babberger . In 1919 he went to Mittenwald, where his Karwendel pictures were created from 1921–1931. In 1935 Unruh stayed at the Villa Massimo in Rome on a scholarship . In 1937 he was defamed as a degenerate artist , and in 1941 his studio in Munich was destroyed. Unruh mainly created pastels, watercolors and charcoal drawings .
