Kyogle is a word in the Aboriginal language and means in German a bustard egg or a bush hen egg as a tribute to the bush chickens native to the region.

economy

Cattle farming, dairy farming and forestry are the most important industries. In the past, the abundance of wood attracted the settlers to this area. Red cedar ( Toona ) and New Guinea araucarias ( Araucaria cunninghamii ) were the most important tree species for logging.

Kyogle is located on Summerland Way (State Road 91), a tourist route through northeast New South Wales.

The station is on the North Coast Line from Sydney to Brisbane, north of Casino. The daily train from Sydney to Brisbane stops in Kyogle at 4:22 am and the opposite train stops at 9:28 am. There was a passing track in the station, but when this track was expanded for 1,500 m long trains, it was moved to a more suitable, straighter section of track outside the city.

Approx. 35 km north of Kyogle, near Cougal on the Queensland border, is a 360 ° loop that leads the railway line over the southern canopy of the McPherson Range .
