Kyriakos Ioannou ( Greek Κυριάκος Ιωάννου , born July 26, 1984 in Limassol ) is a Cypriot high jumper . He won silver at the 2009 World Championships and bronze at the 2007 World Championships.

At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, he was eliminated in qualification. In the following year, Ioannou was able to qualify for a grand final in the adult class for the first time at the World Championships in Helsinki in 2005 and finished tenth with 2.25 m. In March 2006, he entered the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne ; with 2.23 m he won bronze behind the Canadian Mark Boswell and the Englishman Martyn Bernard .

In August 2007 Ioannou won silver at the Universiade in Bangkok and only had to admit defeat to the Russian Alexandr Shustov with 2.26 m . 14 days later at the 2007 World Cup in Osaka, three jumpers crossed 2.35 m. According to the rule of multiple attempts, the Bahamian Donald Thomas won ahead of the Russian Yaroslav Rybakow . Ioannou won the first medal for a Cypriot at World Athletics Championships with a national record. Ioannou won another bronze medal at the World Indoor Championships in Valencia in 2008 ; Together with the American Andra Manson , he was only behind Stefan Holm and Rybakow with 2.30 m . At the Olympic Games in Beijing , he did not get past the preliminary round again.

In 2009 he won silver at the European Indoor Championships in Turin with 2.29 m. Another silver medal followed at the World Championships in Berlin , where he reached the same height as the winner Rybakow with 2.32 m. In 2010 he was fourth at the Indoor World Championships in Doha with 2.28 m.

In his third participation in the Olympics, he came in 2012 in London with 2.20 m in 13th place. In 2014 he won the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with 2.28 m silver behind the Canadian Derek Drouin . At the European Indoor Championships 2015 in Prague, he failed to make a valid attempt in the final.

Kyriakos Ioannou is 1.93 m tall and weighs 66 kg. Ioannou is a multiple Cypriot champion; he won the Mediterranean Games in Almería in 2005 and in Pescara in 2009 .
