Lázaro Chacón González (born June 27, 1873 in Teculután , † April 9, 1931 New Orleans ) was President of Guatemala from September 27, 1926 to December 12, 1930 .

Life

His parents were Soledad González Paiz, who died during his birth, and Juan José Chacón Paiz.

General Chacón was commander of the honor guard as José María Orellana on September 26, 1926 at 12:15 in Hotel Some of angina pectoris died. During his reign, the Banco de Crédito Agrícola , the Crédito Hipotecario Nacional and the Dirección General de Aeronáutica Civil (Civil Aviation Authority) were founded. A constituent assembly called by him stipulated in a constitution that the president could not be elected a second time.

He suffered from right hemiplegia and when his health did not improve he was forced to resign. His wife signed the deed of resignation for him and he was taken to a hospital in New Orleans, where he died.

Baudilio Palma, the finance minister , became acting president on their behalf.

On December 17, 1930, General Manuel María Orellana Contreras from the Cuartel de Matamoros, drunk with pistols in his fists, accompanied by a few soldiers , entered the official residence of the President and forced Baudilio Palma to resign.

During this occupation 57 people were injured, some fatally.

Manuel Orellana Contrera's usurpation was rejected in large parts of Guatemalan society. Herbert C. Hoover's US government did not recognize his presidency. The US Ambassador Sheldon Whitehouse ultimately threatened an invasion of the USMC . On December 31, 1930, the Partido Liberal Progresista of Jorge Ubico Castañeda , the MP José María Reina Andrade as president.
