The Löbbenbach is an orographically right tributary of the Tauernbach in the Lienz district (East Tyrol). It is located in the north of the municipality of Matrei in East Tyrol .
The Löbbenbach is fed by the Löbbensee , which draws its water mainly from the meltwater of the Wildenkees . From Löbbensee ( 2226 m above sea level ) the Löbbenbach first flows to the east-northeast and falls steeply to around 2000 m above sea level. A. from. In the comparatively flat Lackenboden, the Löbbebach forms a few meanders and then plunges north-east into the Tauern Valley , where it flows into the Tauernbach. The Wildenkogelweg, a hiking trail between the Matreier Tauernhaus and the Wildenkogel, follows the course of the Löbbebach from its mouth to the Löbbensee.
The name of the Löbbenbach is derived from the dialect word Leipen (Slovene lépen ), which means "large leaf" or perhaps also meant plate. The meaning of the name Löbbenbach can therefore be assumed to be “Plattenbach” or “Steinbach”.
