The Wildenkogel is 3021 m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Gschlößkamm in the Venediger group ( Hohen Tauern ) in Austria . The technically relatively simple three-thousand-meter peak rises immediately to the west above the East Tyrolean part of the Felbertauernstrasse . It can be climbed without alpine touring equipment, and in particularly good conditions even into October without contact with glaciers and snow.
Ascent routes
From the east, i.e. from the Matreier Tauernhaus in the Tauern Valley , the Wildenkogel can be climbed on a marked path in around 4½ hours (1500 meters in altitude). The often very steep and not always clearly visible climb leads through an impressive high mountain landscape with several idyllic lakes of different colors ( Löbbensee , Wildensee and a small lake at the lower end of the Wildenkees ); In the lower part, the landscape is mainly characterized by grassy and earthy terrain; further up, almost vegetation-free block terrain and snow fields determine the environment.
Up to a height of 2,600 m, the path runs almost continuously parallel to a steeply falling stream (in the lowest part it is called Löbbenbach). From the Wildenkogelscharte (approx. 2,865 m) the route leads over the south ridge of the Wildenkogel, which is structured by rough blocks, which requires a head for heights and easy climbing skills (difficulty level I on the UIAA scale ). From the west, a marked path leads from the Badener Hütte ( 2608 m ) to the summit of the Wildenkogel in about three hours.
