The Wildensee , also called Wildensee , is a mountain lake ( 2515  m above sea level ) in the Gschlößkamm of the Venediger group in the north of East Tyrol (municipality of Matrei in East Tyrol ).

The Wildensee is a cirque lake in the east of the Gschlößkamm. It lies between the Hinteren Plattenkogel ( 2741  m above sea level ) in the north, the Wildenkogel ( 3021  m above sea level ) in the northwest and the Schildkogel ( 2826  m above sea level ) in the southeast. The Löbensee is mainly fed by the meltwater from the Wildenkees . Above the Wildensee there is a small glacial lake, the outflow of which flows into the Wildensee. The runoff of the Wildensee flows into a varnish that feeds the Löbbensee , which is further below, and subsequently the Löbbenbach . In a study in the 1980s, a population of arctic char was described in the Wildensee, with numerous lakes in the region being stocked with fish as early as the Middle Ages.

The easiest way to get to the Wildensee is via the Wildenkogelweg, which first leads from the Matreier Tauernhaus to the Löbbensee . From the Löbbensee, you first continue on the Wildenkogelweg to a Lacke above the Löbbensee, which is also known as the Eissee, and then follow the Wildenkogelweg bzz. the course of the stream up to an altitude of 2,600 meters. There you leave the Wildenkogelweg and walk without a path to the southeast to the Wildensee.
