Lüübnitsa is a village ( Estonian küla ) in southeast Estonia . It belongs to the Setomaa rural community in Võru County ( Mikitamäe in Põlva County until 2017 ).

Population and location

The village has 58 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). It is right on Lake Peipus . To the south of the town center there is a 12.5 meter high observation tower, which offers a wide view of the marshland and the lake.

The island Kolpina (Estonian Kulkna ), which today belongs to Russia, lies just a little to the east .

History and sights

The place was first mentioned in 1582. In August every year there is a traditional onion and fish market in Lüübnitsa.

In the village there is a small Orthodox chapel ( Setuce tsässon ).
