Philadelphia Eagles

Smith with the Eagles (2006)

LJ Smith was selected in the second round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles . In 2004 he was able to record 34 pass catches and five touchdowns. A tight end of the Eagles last succeeded in 2001. In addition, he managed a spectacular catch in Super Bowl XXXIX , with which he brought his team into the lead. The game was lost to the New England Patriots in the end.

The following season he made 61 passes and three touchdowns until quarterback Donovan McNabb was injured . Due to the injury-related change in the game philosophy, which was less geared towards passing, he was unable to maintain his performance. He then started the 2006 season well again , but was also heavily criticized. The trigger was the number of balls dropped. Still, he got four touchdowns in twelve games.

After the Eagles could not agree on a new contract with Smith before the 2008 season , they occupied him with the franchise tag .

Baltimore Ravens

On March 20, 2009, Smith signed a one-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens . In his only season for Baltimore, he caught only two passes for 31 yards.
