La Asunta is a town in the Santa Cruz Department in the lowlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

La Asunta is the fourth largest town in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) of San Julián in the province of Ñuflo de Chávez . The village is located at an altitude of 241  m about 35 km east of the Bolivian Río Grande .

La Asunta is located in the Bolivian lowlands in the Chiquitanía region , a still sparsely populated landscape between Santa Cruz and the Brazilian border, which, however, between San Julián and San Ramón has been subjected to rapid agricultural colonization in the last few decades.

The region's climate is a semi-humid climate of the warm subtropics . The monthly average temperatures fluctuate only slightly over the course of the year between 21 and 22 ° C (see climate diagram San Ramón) in the winter months of June and July with strong cold south winds, and 26 to 27 ° C from October to March.

The annual amount of precipitation averages around 1000 mm over the long term, which falls mainly in the wet season from November to March, while the arid months from July to September show monthly values ​​between 25 and 50 mm.

San Julián is located at a distance of 174 kilometers by road northeast of Santa Cruz , the capital of the department.

From Santa Cruz, the asphalted highway Ruta 4 leads 47 kilometers in an easterly direction via Cotoca to Pailón . Here it meets Ruta 9 , which in a northerly direction via Los Troncos and San Julián reaches La Asunta after another 127 kilometers . The Ruta 9 then continues via Trinidad in the far northeast of the country to Guayaramerín on the Brazilian border.
