La Péri (Dukas)
La Péri is a one-act ballet composed by Paul Dukas between 1909 and December 1910, called Poème dansé by the composer . It was premiered on April 22, 1912 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris . The choreography was by Ivan Clustine . It is about a Persian prince who wanders to the end of the world in search of the lotus flower, through which man can become immortal, until he finally meets her protector, the Péri .
Instrumentation
The orchestral line-up for the opera includes the following instruments:
- Woodwinds : three flutes (3rd also piccolo ), English horn , two oboes , two clarinets , one bass clarinet , three bassoons
- Brass : four horns , three trumpets , three trombones , tuba
- Timpani (three players), cymbals , a bass drum, a snare drum , tambourine , a triangle , a xylophone , a celesta
