La Poste (also PTT La Poste , Postes, Télégraphes et Télécommunications (German: Post, Telegrafie und Telefon) ) is a state-owned French postal company organized as a public limited company , which also takes over the delivery of mail in the French overseas departments and the French overseas territories .

After the civil service, La Poste is the largest French employer. The French Post Office was founded in 1576. On March 23, 2010 the company was converted into a stock corporation. All shares are owned by the French state. Before that, it was a public company with a commercial character ( établissements publics à caractère industriel et commercial (EPIC)).
