action

The Tibetan New Years Day: Photographer Songjialuo and his assistant have set up their photo station in a village in Tibet and are taking photos in front of large-format photo wallpapers. First, an extended family is photographed in front of a temple, then another group in front of the Great Wall of China and a smaller family in front of a big city scene. Songjialuo tries to get the young Tibetan Gongbo to swap his old-fashioned jacket for a more modern one. Gongbo leaves the group without a word, the photo is taken without him. The grandfather explains to Songjialuo that Gongbo's jacket was made for him by his now dead mother, which is why he only wears this jacket. Songjialuo remains thoughtful.

A wedding couple appears in front of the camera and is to be photographed in front of a villa. The mayor of the village comes by on a motorcycle; the motorcycle is quickly integrated into the photo. Three boys pose as medalists in front of a 2008 Beijing Olympics wallpaper . The old Ama Lhamo Tso has never been photographed and is photographed in front of a wallpaper of the Potala Palace . She sees the wallpaper - her lifelong dream is to visit the palace - and begins to pray in front of the picture. The photo can only be taken when the photographers are forced to lower an island scene as the background.

Songjialuo and his assistant dismantle their photo station. Gongbo appears; Since the photographer is going home via Lhasa , he gives him a lamp filled with yak butter. He is supposed to bring her to the Potala Palace as an offering for his deceased mother. Songjialuo promises Gongbo to take care of it.

production

An image for eternity was Weis' first film after completing his studies at Le Fresnoy University. Producer Julien Féret, son of René Féret , had already met Wei during his studies. A picture for the ages was shot in the Himalayan area. The characters in the film are authentic, while the largely rigid camera perspective gives the film an experimental character. The boundaries between fiction and documentary film are blurred in the film.

The film premiered on May 20, 2013 at the Cannes International Film Festival . Arte first broadcast the film on September 28, 2013 on German television.

Wei Hu won the main prize of the international competition and the audience prize at the 2013 International Short Film Festival in Winterthur .
