Lachnellula or softwood hair cups are a type of fungus from the Hyaloscyphaceae family . In Central Europe there are over ten species, for example Lachnellula subtilissima and Lachnellula willkommii .

description

The species of the genus Lachnellula form small, mostly short-stalked fruit bodies with a yolk-yellow to orange-colored fruit layer and a white or, more rarely, brown-haired exterior. The apothecia are cup-shaped when young, later bowl-shaped to flat-plate-shaped. The fruit layer is yolk yellow to orange, the outside and the edge are densely covered with brown hairs in some species and white hairs in most species. When dry, the fruit bodies are usually very rolled up. The brown-haired species are easy to overlook on the brown bark of the conifers.

The genus is very similar to Dasyscyphus because of the external hairiness , but the paraphyses are finer, filamentous and no longer than the Asci . The species all have a strong color. Lugol does not cause discoloration in the ascus porus .

ecology

The species of the genus usually live saprophytically on dead coniferous wood, in addition there are parasitic species such as the larch crab cup ( Lachnellula willkommii ). Their strict attachment to softwood distinguishes them from other similar genera such as Dasyscyphus .

Types (selection)

The genus includes about 35-40 species. In Styria alone there are 17 species including subspecies. The Austrian mushroom database shows the following species:
