Ladislav Ballek

Ladislav Ballek (born April 2, 1941 in Terin , Slovakia , † April 15, 2014 in Pressburg ) was a Slovak writer, politician and diplomat.

Life

Ballek spent his childhood in southern Slovakia. He then studied Slowakistik , history and art education at the Faculty of Education in Slovakia Neusohl (Banska Bystrica) and then worked as a teacher in the area of Arwa . From 1966 he worked as an editor for the Slovak radio in Neusohl and for the magazine Smer . In 1972 he became a publisher's editor at the Bratislava publishing house Slovenský spisovate gab and edited Slovak prose. From 1977 to 1980 he was head of the literary department of the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic in Pressburg. He then became the deputy director of the Slovak Literary Fund. He worked as a writer and published short stories, short stories and novels. In 1984 he became the chief secretary of the Association of Slovak Writers . He held this office until the dissolution of the association in 1989.

After the Velvet Revolution of 1989, Ballek became politically active and entered the Slovak National Council for the left-wing Strana Demokratieickej ľavice (SDĽ) . At the same time he taught at several universities. In 1998 he ran for the office of President of Slovakia , but did not achieve the necessary majority in the National Council.

From 2001 to 2008 he was the Slovak Ambassador to the Czech Republic in Prague . He was president of the Ladislav Novomeský Foundation .

Awards

In 1980 he received the Slovak National Prize and was honored as an Honored Artist in 1982.
