The Lagaunspitze is a 3438  m high mountain in the Saldurkamm in the South Tyrolean part of the Ötztal Alps . Together with the 3433  m high Saldurspitze , it forms a distinctive twin peak.

Location and surroundings

The Lagaunspitze is located in the northwest of South Tyrol in the area of the Saldurkamm. It rises in a short side ridge that protrudes eastward from the Saldurspitze into the inner Schnalstal . The closest summit is the Saldurspitze, about 300 m away in the northwest. The mountain is surrounded by the glacial fields of the Lazaunferner in the north and the Lagaunferner in the south. Administratively, the area belongs to the municipality of Schnals .

Climbs

Like the neighboring Saldurspitze, the Lagaunspitze is extremely promising, but is not accessible by a marked path and is relatively seldom climbed as a demanding high-altitude tour . The first ascent dates back to 1876 when Carl Hecke and his mountain guide Gabriel Spechtenhauser reached the summit. Since the Lagaunspitze can be accessed relatively quickly via the connecting ridge to the nearby Saldurspitze, both peaks are often climbed together. Direct climbs to the Lagaunspitze usually lead over the northeast or southeast ridge.
