Lajedo is a freguesia (municipality) in the Lajes das Flores district on the Azores island of Flores . The place is the most southwest of the island and is connected to the district towns of Lajes and Santa Cruz via the main road R 1-2 .

Rocha dos Bordões

The village of Lajedo is known for its Áqua Quente hot spring by the sea . Above the village there is the impressive basalt formation Rocha dos Bordões .

On June 10, 1909, the RMS Slavonia , a passenger steamer of the Cunard Line , ran onto the rocks off Lajedo on the way from New York to Trieste . After the first SOS call in world history was set off, all 410 passengers could be picked up by the German ships Batavia and Prinzess Irene that had come up. The Slavonia could no longer be saved and later sank in a storm.
